What Am I Writing Now?

Throughout this blog, I’ve mentioned I’m a writer. A fiction writer.

Perhaps you’re interested in my projects. Perhaps not. But if you ever get curious about what Erin’s up to, this is the place to find out.

I’ll keep this page updated if any of my projects change. (…And they will. I love jumping from project to project). Perhaps this could be another pathway on my paper trail – in five years, I’ll be able to see what’s changed in my writing world too.

As a side note: I’ve spent a considerable amount of time designing covers on Canva for my stories. All the covers you see in this post were made by me, purely for my own enjoyment (and as a way to procrastinate on things I actually had to do). They aren’t meant to be official covers – and if you look any of these titles up online, you won’t be able to purchase them anywhere. Yet…

Work-in-Progress (WIP)

Book 6: Untitled

(Science-Fiction/Dystopian)

~ Cover Coming Soon ~

After about a year and a half of writer’s burnout, I finally embarked on my sixth novel during the summer of 2022.

Quick Synopsis

Aneira can manipulate reality – twist circumstances to her favor, reverse the memory of events, cover up deadly mistakes. But her world is falling apart at the seams as more people develop destructive powers and even more disappear, never to return. In order to survive, Aneira must keep her powers hidden, though when she bends reality to save her only friend from disappearing, unwittingly causing an innocent bystander to disappear instead, she must use her powers to cover up her trail before anyone finds out about her crime. But powers have consequences. Consequences even Aneira can’t overcome.

Current Stage

This story (currently untitled, though I’m getting close to a title I like) is in the drafting stages. It’s been a slow process, but I’m hoping to finish this book by May 2023.

Past WIPs

Here I’ll list all previous projects and current stages. I’m not actively working on these, but I hope to return soon.

The Tear

(Science-Fiction/Fantasy)

From 2014 to 2018, The Tear was being written, replotted, and rewritten. As my first novel, this story is near and dear to my heart and I hope to return to it someday.

Quick Synopsis

Time travel is a weapon. A weapon, that if used properly, could make one person supreme ruler of time itself.

The first book in The Tear Series (of which The Omega is a member) follows the adventures of teenaged Autumn and Guy as they are sucked into the evil schemes of feuding time lords hoping to be the sole owner of time travel. If they want to survive the magical dangers and perilous climates of The Tear dimension, they will have to outsmart the time lords themselves, even if it means getting sucked deeper into times long forgotten.

Current Stage

After a total of three drafts, of varying completion, The Tear was finally finished in a complete piece and I printed one copy in book form for my personal pleasure. Sorry… this title isn’t available on Amazon… yet.

Since it took me four years to tell this story, I decided to move on to other stories and return to The Tear later for another re-plotting and rewrite.

I don’t have any plans in the near future to return to this volume, but when I do, I hope to pursue publication.

100 Reasons to Save the World

(Christian Contemporary)

During the summer of 2019, I decided to try my hand at a Christian story. I completed the first draft of this novel in three months, however as my second novel ever completed, it is also not of good quality.

Quick Synopsis

“…I am weary, God, but I can prevail”

Proverbs 30:1

Following 18 different lives and 18 different crises, 100 Reasons to Save the World is a story of hope and perseverance. When, inevitably, it feels like life’s storms are far too strong, God’s promises shine through. For even in trials, everything works together for good and no one is left forgotten.

Current Stage

After completing the first draft, I realized the structure for this story wasn’t working. I moved on to another project quickly and have not edited or replotted since completing my first draft.

I have plans to return to this story for a complete rewrite, but I don’t know when that will be.

The Omega

(Dystopian/Science-Fiction)

The Omega is the novel I wrote in November 2019 for NaNoWriMo. (I broke down that process here.) This is my third completed novel.

Synopsis

Book 3 in The Tear Series, The Omega is a villain origin story. Two villain origin stories.

Set in a distant future, Darius and Titus, twin sons of an outcast father, must navigate a corrupt and destructive world. Darius, ashamed by his family name, ambitiously pursues positions of power to overcome his impoverished upbringing. Titus, fearful of the world around him, only wishes for safety and security in the tumultuous society he cannot escape.

However far apart their stories seem, the brothers soon find themselves chasing the same objects: the time travel powers that bind their society together.

The Omega follows each brother’s slow descent into villainy as they both justify the destruction of time itself.

Current Stage

My printed copy turned out wonderfully!

The Omega is fully written at around 85,000 words. After several months of edits based on beta feedback, I’ve finally put this story to rest.

The All-Knowing

(Dystopian/Science-Fiction)

The All-Knowing began during a random burst of imaginative energy at 2 AM many months before I ever considered actually writing it. Then for April 2020’s Camp NaNoWriMo event, I decided to start this story for real. This is my fifth completed novel.

Synopsis

Set in an isolated city, 17-year-old Cheree must fight against a smothering world order to unravel intricate mysteries surrounding her missing family. But when she becomes skeptical of the All-Knowing, society’s faceless leader instructing the city’s every move, Cheree helps a massive revolution catch fire, eventually overthrowing everything she’s ever known.

But does Cheree know enough about the world, and what lies outside her city’s boundaries, to really decide when a society is unjust?

Current Stage

I finished writing this novel in December 2020 after working on it for nine months and restarting it two months in.

This story was incredibly difficult to write. I couldn’t get inside my characters heads or truly understand the depths of the world I built. I started to read through this draft and take notes, but I have not completed that process. I hope to come back someday and delve into the true story I want to tell about these characters.

Dearest October

(Fantasy/Dystopian)

For NaNoWriMo 2020, I impulsively embarked on a new story. This is my fourth completed novel at 58,000 words.

Synopsis

The year is 2155 and 95% of the world’s population has been destroyed from three nuclear wars and an extremely deadly virus. Some of those who survived now live in the new city, but many others live in Energy Farms, collecting electricity to run the new world. Unfortunately for October, a resident of one of these Energy Farms, life is not as simple as it seems. All she wants is to be with her father and pet dragon, but she begins questioning life as she knows it when she meets a newcomer named Nye.

Current Stage

I reached 50,000 words in 25 days and finished the novel by the end of November 2020… and haven’t touched it since. I hope one day to circle back to this story to polish up the storyline and prose.

In addition to novels, I’ve also written over 30 short stories and 20 poems. I *want* to say I’ll pursue publication in magazines soon, but we’ll see if that actually happens.

Someday, all my stories (short stories, poetry, and novels alike) may be available for the world to enjoy, but in the meantime, let me know in the comments which one you’re most interested in.

Are you working on any projects – writing, art, knitting, or something else?
